Toni Belford Damiano has practiced Matrimonial and Family related law since 1984. Ms. Damiano handles cases in the areas of divorce, custody, domestic violence, parent and child relocation, and other family related areas. Ms. Damiano also oversees the team of matrimonial attorneys in her firm, each of whom are uniquely suited to handle specific areas of matrimonial and family related law, from simple to complex, which permits every client to have their individual needs met in the most cost effective manner possible. Ms. Damiano has lectured for the institute of continuing legal education, for women in transition, for various civic organizations, and has appeared on television for various topics in family law including the financial impact of divorce and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases by spouses.
Ms. Damiano has also worked with the battered women’s advocacy project and was appointed by the Supreme Court for its Women in the Law advisory committee. Ms. Damiano was also appointed as a Special Master by the Office of Attorney Ethics and is presently a member of the Supreme Court’s Special Ethics Project and a member of the District Eleven Ethics Committee. In addition to her private practice, Ms. Damiano is a sitting Municipal Court Judge, who must frequently deal with domestic violence issues. Ms. Damiano has also had several cases by the New Jersey Appellate Division and for many years has been a member of the Passaic County and Essex County Early Settlement Panel Program in addition to being chosen as a Blue Panel Member in complex matrimonial matters.
Ms. Damiano is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and the New Jersey Supreme Court. She has also been appointed by the Superior Court of New Jersey as a Guardian ad Litem in many matters, to protect the interest of minors during acrimonious matrimonial litigation and litigation involving the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Ms. Damiano is committed to providing each client with exceptional personal service and in bringing their matter to an expeditious and equitable settlement.
Ms. Damiano’s prior experience as an educator and guidance counselor with certification in Special Education, coupled with her 18 years experience as the Attorney for the Garfield New Jersey Board of Education, allows her to have extensive knowledge and the needs of children, especially children of special needs, which can often complicate the family law proceedings. Although compassionate for her clients, Toni Belford Damiano is known for her aggressive brand of advocacy and is a formidable opponent, whether advocating in the Courtroom or negotiating across a conference room table, and is considered a force to be reckoned with in the world of matrimonial law.
